BRETT & WYCKOFF, INC. REAL ESTATE 400 MADISON AVENUE AT 47TH STREET NEW YORK November 22, 1938 The Honorable Franklin D. Roosevelt Warm Springs Georgia My dear Mr. President: I have taken the liberty of writing you at the above address relative to Hyde Park, as an idea occurred to me recently and I thought that at present you would have time to digest it and let me have your reaction. It occurred to me that you really ought to be the owner of the Huyler property of 880 acres, and I can sell it to you exclusively for $55,000, or $62.50 per acre, and I thought I could then contact our friend, Judge Mack, who would put me in a position to see Banks in Poughkeepsie relative to a purchase money mortgage. I am quite confident I could get this type of mortgage for all or nearly all the entire purchase price. You could therefore carry this property for five or ten years as you so desired, as a dairy that is now functioning on the East Park section could be enlarged and properly developed to more than carry the property. I also thought that within the time I have mentioned possibly Franklin, Jr. or James might want land in this section. Also I can think of at least a dozen of your friends to whom portions of this property could be sold by you. I am enclosing a diagram showing how the property is now divided among the several Huyler heirs, and their attorney,Mr. Alexander A. Maypher, has said that they are all anxious to dispose of this property and want to sell it to the first purchaser who comes along. May I ask that you give this matter serious consideration and allow me to see you when you return to Washington relative |
