     A responsible official of the Chinese Foreign 
Office has orally informed an officer of the Embassy 
that the Chinese Government has information that the 
Japanese authorities intend as of noon of September 8 
(repeat 8) to commence replacement with Japanese forces 
of the armed forces of the belligerent nations in the 
French Concession and the International Settlement of
Shanghai.
     Repeated to Peiping and Shanghai.  Shanghai please 
repeat to Tokyo.
