My dear Mr. President:
You will doubtless recall the correspondence I have had during the past nearly two years
with my friend the Right Honorable Leopold Amery, Minister for India and life-long friend and
political ally of the Prime Minister. This correspondence touched on many postwar questions.
It was confidential and personal in its discussion, i.e., it did not purport to represent the
views of his Government - nor of ours. My contribution was limited to propounding questions.
His replies are the important features.
Late in January I sent him a "thesis" I had privately prepared on Germany calling
particular attention to future measures to prevent Germany from rearming. Through Sumner Welles
I sent you this "thesis" last autumn. I asked his comments. I had not previously given him any
study or impression as to our "thinking" here.
I now have his reply which I enclose. I find it wery interesting in many ways - especially
as in some ways it parallels our own discussions. If you would care to re-read the whole file of
correspondence and my own German thesis I will send or bring them to you.
With kindest regards,
Sincerely,
Myron Taylor
The President,
The White House.
