WASHINGTON
April 22, 1942
MEMORANDUM FOR MR. HOPKINS:
1. In answer to your request of last evening for a memorandum showing production of air
transports in 1942, by month, together with number of transports that now exist, the number
which are now in the hands of the Army or the Navy, and the number of these latter which are
used on the African-Asiatic ferry route, the attached memorandum prepared for my signature by
Col. Jamison is forwarded.
2. In answer to your request for the shipping loss picture, there are forwarded herewith
the following documents containing the date:
Memorandum of April 20, 1942 by Mr. Lubin
Tables I to IV showing gains and losses
of ocean going mercahnt vessels for certain periods.
Two charts- weekly and monthly gains and losses of ocean going
Merchant vessels.
3. I suspect that ship losses may not tell the whole story. Ship "turn arounds" on the
various routes and voyages may be increasing. I am asking Mr. Lubin to analyze this question.
