WAR DEPARTMENT
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF STAFF
WASH I NGTON
January 28, 1942.
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT:
In connection with Mr. Currie' s memorandum
on the Chinese situation, which I am returning herewith,
I believe you will be interested in the attached copies of
two radios. One of these, which I sent personally to
General Wavell, is self-explanatory. No reply has been
received as yet but as General Wavell left Java for Rangoon
the day following this message, we hope there will be some
positive result.
The other is a message received today from
Magruder. It is rather encouraging in tone and indicates
that some of the rough spots are being smoothed out.
