     255, September 6, 7 p.m.
 
     An official German source informs us as follows:
 
     Had England and France not declared war it was contemplated that German operations
would cease with the first phase.  This phase was intended to take that part of Poland which Hitler
demanded.  With that declaration of war by England and France there will be no let up on Poland
until all resistance has been crushed and the entire country subjected to German occupation
     Germany desires to have Italy and all Balkan countries neutral or inactive until Polish
operati ons have been contemplated.  No more fighting on several fronts at the same time as
during the last war if it can be avoided, there will be a partition of Poland between Germany and
Russia.  Russia is to become an active military ally.  Mussolini's actions thus far have been in
complete accord with Hitler's desires.  The war will be of very long duration and will result in
