 The show itself was given and was admirable.
Goring talked to the ladies while this was going on.
As soon as it was finished he seized the British
Ambassador by the arm and disappeared. We only saw
him again to say good night later in the evening.
 
 
 I suppose every one in the room had in their
consciousness the memory of the Ball of Brussels on
the eve of Waterloo. The contrast of the brilliance
of the entertainment with the gamble that was being
undertaken made the whole political development the
more striking and dramatic.
