1st. Blenheims attacked
Bardia for over four hours in support of our ground operations.
Three other Blenheim squadrons bombed widely dispersed motor
transport South East of Jedabya, blowing up an ammunition truck
and starting fires. Kittyhawk fighters intercepted 16 German
dive bombers escorted by six German fighters over Jedabya and
forced them to jettison their bombs. Four dive bombers and one
fighter were destroyed and six of the remainder were either probably
destroyed or damaged. One Kittyhawk is missing.
1st/2nd. Four Albacores,
one of which is missing, were sent to lay mines in Oouara Harbor.
Blenheims hit a small steamer at Buerat E1 Hsun and started fires
in barracks and a mechanical transport Park.
Malta.
1st/2nd. 13 aircraft dropped
rocket bombs (device (to) increase velocity), causing some damage
and a number of casualties.
31st December/1st January.
Singapore was attacked by over 30 aircraft, which caused slight
civilian damage.
1st and 2nd. Three Dutch
Glenn Martins sighted four launches, each towing from two to
five small craft, in the Bernam Estuary. Two of the aircraft
were lost, and two Blenheims sent later to attack the launches
are missing. Two Catalinas attacked an energy aerodrome, hitting
the runway and setting fire to two aircraft. Enemy aircraft attacked
and rendered temporarily unserviceable Tangah aerodrome Singapore.
Two of our aircraft were destroyed and two others damaged. Port
Swettenham was attacked several times and a rubber warehouse
set on fire.
