CONFIDENTIAL AND PERSONAL
Last night King Farouk insisted on calling on me in secret
at my home in order to discuss the political crisis which has
arisen in Egypt. The King has been endeavoring to get in touch
with me ever since last Friday; however, I was on a visit to
Iran. The King provided me with copies of his communication to
the British Ambassador and the verbal reply from Mr. Churchill
which the British Ambassador had given him. The King also stated
that it is his determination to bring to a head the issue between
the Prime Minister and himself even though it might result in
the exile and forced abdication of the King.
The reply of Mr. Churchill sates that the question is to be
considered early in the week by a special. meeting of the War
Cabinet. In this reply the King is requested to refrain from
any violent action in the meantime. The
