August 3, 1940 Dear Henry, I think I cannot object to the increase in assessment on the Newbold place on Violet Avenue, if this covers both sides of Violet Avenue. As you know, there are six tiny houses or apartments west of Violet Avenur but there are also two tiny apartments made out of the old ban on the Hewson place. I hope that they will not jump the assessment on that place also. I take it that all the other assessments are the same. I wish, however, you could ask for a reduction of assessment on the main place on the Post Road because, as you know, eighteen acres valued at about $5,000 by the Treasury Department have been given to the Government and the assessment on the place ought to be reduced for that reason. No improvements have been made on the remainder of the old parts of the place. As ever yours, Franklin Roosevelt |
