DRAFT STATEMENT.
During his visit to the United States of America Mr. Eden
has had a series of intimate conferences with the President % the
Secretary of State and their advisers, at which current military
and political affairs and other questions arising out of the
war have been the subject of discussion.
These conferences have disclosed a close similarity of outlook
on the part of the two Governments and there has been a most
fruitful meeting of minds on all matters that have come under
discussion.
The conversations have touched, among other things, upon the
problems that will face the Governments of the U.S.A., the U.K.,
China and the Soviet Union and of the other United Nations in
safeguarding the world from further aggression after the defeat
of the Axis Powers. Reference has been made to the problem of
political decisions connected with military operations and to
the problems that will arise upon the surrender of the en
While it has not been the purpose of these exploratory meetings
to reach final decisions, which indeed is impossible at this
stage, a large measure of general agreement has been reached
which will be of great value in further discussions between the
two Governments and with other powers.
All who took part in the conversations look forward with increased
confidence to the development of harmonious and effective collaboration
among the United Nations, both now and after the war.
