Aug. 6th, 1940. Hon. Franklin D. Roosevelt Hyde Park Dutchess County, N. Y. Dear Franklin: Replying to your letter of August 3rd in reference to the Hyde Park assessments, this morning I c ompared the 1939 and 1940 tax books, which are now in the Town Clerk's office, and found that they had made no allowance in the assessment of the residence to your mother for the 16.31 acres conveyed by deed dated July 24th, 1939 to the U. S.Government and that they had increased the assessment of the Dumphy farm lying west of Violet Avenue from $5700. to $8000. Those were the only objections I could find to the assessments. I will write to John Vandewater, the Chairman of the Board of Assessors, and ask that a reasonable reduction be made in the assessment of the residence property to your mother for the 16.31 acres of land conveyed to the Government by deed dated July 24th, 1939. I also have your note of August 3rd in reference to the deeds which I am holding for your mother. Sincerely yours, Henry Hackett |
