Gentlemen: President and Mrs. Roosevelt conveyed to the United States of America by deed dated Dec. 29, 1943 and recorded in Liber 613 of Deeds at page 209, 33.23 acres on which the residence and all other buildings owed by the President west of the Post Road were then located. They reserved the life use of the property for the President, and Mrs. Roosevelt and their five children were to have the joint right to use and occupy the property for life, the occupants to pay the taxes and upkeep. Mrs. Roosevelt and the children have decided to give up the right to use and occupy this property and the U. S. Government will take possession in a few days. The area of the Wheeler and part of the Boreel property devised by James Roosevelt to President Roosevelt, subject to the life estate of Sara D. Roosevelt, was 116.9 acres Conveyed in 1939 to the U. S. A. for library 16.31 Conveyed in 1943 to the U. S. A. for memorial 33.23 49.54 67.36 There is included in the assessment of the President's property on the west side of the Post Road the above 67.36 acres of vacant wood land still owned by the estate of President Roosevelt. Will you please separate the assessment on the tax roll of the Town of Hyde Park and assess the 33.23 acres to the U.S. Government and the 67.36 acres to the estate of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
