Henry T. Hackett, Esq. - 2 - April 29, 1946

       8. Mrs. Roosevelt is to have the prior right to
purchase the property East of the Albany Post Road
for the benefit of herself and the five children
when the Executors are in a position to sell at
terms to be agreed upon at that time and subject
to the approval of the Surrogate's Court.

With reference to the Campobello Island property,
Mrs. Roosevelt has requested permission to spend a week or two
on the property this July in order to determine what
expenditures are necessary to make the cottage fit for
occupancy. I advised her that the Executors would grant
such permission and that it would not be necessary to enter
into any lease at this time. She advised me that her offer
of 31,000.00 to purchase part of the property was only in
the event that the Executors were unable to obtain a better
price from anyone else.

According to Mrs. Roosevelt, the barn and chicken
houses are badly in need of roof repairs. She has obtained an
estimate from someone in Poughkeepsie of $1,020.00 for the repairs
and urges that the Executors accept this estimate immediately and
proceed with the repairs. The name of the person giving the
estimate can be obtained from Mr. Linaka. Mrs. Roosevelt's letter
to the Executors will authorize the deduction of this amount from
income and I understand that you will go ahead with the making of
the necessary arrangements with the contractor.

The new farmer who has been employed to replace
Barrett has brought with him certain items as per list enclosed
valued at $782.40. Mrs. Roosevelt indicated to the farmer that
the Estate would purchase these items at that price by paying
him$75.00 a month until paid in full. She has authorized the
payment of this item from income. Will you please obtain from
Mr. Linaka the exact name of the new farmer in order that I may
have it for the records.

                          Sincerely yours,

Encl.
