Chronicle which maintains that we need urgent reconsideration 
      of naval direction at the top. Support for the Government comes 
      from the Socialist Daily Herald, which has for some time been 
   a severe critic of the Administration and the Prime Minis
 
                                                            
 
 
The Party Truce, which has been in existence since the formation 
      of Churchill's Government, is in real danger. Though temporarily 
      sustained the Manchester Guardian (liberal) doubts whether local 
      labor parties can be induced to give active support to any Conservative 
                            candidate.                      
 
                                                            
 
 
There is a widespread demand in many newspapers for more material 
      aid to Russia. The majority of the Press supports "Second 
                             Front".                        
 
                                                            
 
 
Six by-elections will be held shortly. Independent candidates 
        have been nominated in five of the constituencies.
