DIVISION OF EUROPEAN AFFAIRS
February 9, 1940
Mr. Myron Taylor telephoned this morning
to say that the President had showed him yesterday
the letter of appointment which was to be signed by the President
and sent to Mr. Taylor. Mr. Taylor said that the letter
made no mention of his status as Ambassador. He attached
considerable importance to the mention of this, and
hoped that it could be inserted.
The letter is now in the hands of the President.
Would you authorize the Protocol Division to communicate
Mr. Taylor's wishes to the White House.
