Dear Mr. President,
Harry Hooker indicates infinite pleasure in spending the Thanksgiving
holiday with you and Mrs. Roosevelt. He will hand you this little note,
in whcih may I express the hope that you will find on this day much to be
thankful for in spite of the encircling difficulties which weigh upon all
of us, but particularily on you who are guiding the ship of state in so
extraordinary a manner.
This is the third Thanksgiving day since was was declared by the British
and the French. Somehow I have an abiding faith that this day will not
recure many times before the hostilities are finished.
