DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON March 30, 1945 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Subject: Reply of the Pope to the Presidents Felicitation on the Anniversary of the Pope's Coronation. Myron Taylor's telegram number 63 of March 20 to you about which you ask in your memorandum of March 22, 1945 transmits the reply of the Pope to your meassage of congratulations of the occasion of the sixth anniversary of his coronation. On March 12 Mr. Taylor sent the following message to the Pope: "On behalf of President Roosevelt may I offer sincere felicitations on this Sixth Anniversary of the coronation of Your Holiness. "May Your Holiness long be spared in full health and vigor to continue your constant endeavors to rescue and alleviate the sufferings of all those who are distressed in this tragic period of universal war." The Pope's reply of March 16, sent through the Vatican Secretariat of State, does not appear to require any action on your part. {Stettinius} |
