Dear Myron:
I have your memorandum of August 11, 1943 in which you inform me that the Holy See has
never replied to the Apostolic Delegate's request for a safe conduct for your return to the
Vatican.
In view of events, I think this is just as well. If you were actually at the Vatican, I
should be delighted, but I think you will agree that your return at this time would cause
unnecessary and undesirable speculation.
