The Attitude of Private Business Toward Strength through Joy. Occasion has been taken wherever possible to speak with innkeepers, sport instructors, teachers and others who have served Strength through Joy. More criticism is to be heard of the institution in these circles than perhaps in any other. In a way, however, some of the criticism may be taken as a tribute to the parsimony and lack of extravagence of Strength through Joy spending. Innkeepers in the scenic portions of Germany have been known to complain that in the early days of Strength through Joy they were forced to take large numbers of excursionists against their will during the peak of the tourist season. This proved exceedingly burdensome, particularly as many hotels had equipped themselves to care for a better-paying class of tourist who consequently was kept away by the influx of visiting workers.
