that the Polish Government might be reluctant to agree to
make public such counter-assurances as they would have given
us but His Majesty's Government would certainly be pressed to
say whether any such counter-assurance had been given and they
would very much hope to be in a position to announce the fact.
Your French colleague will receive similar instructions and
you should after consulting him speak to the Minister for Foreign
Affairs in the sense of the present telegram.
