Chairman of Board of Assessors,
Town of Hyde Park, N. Y.

Dear Sir:

Your notice of the increase of the assessed valuation
of the parcel of land assessed to F. D. Roosevelt from
$1,400. to $8,000. has been handed to me for reply.

The parcel of land now assessed at $1,400, consisting
of about forty-two acres of land was conveyed by Wyatt Jones
and wife to Franklin D. Roosevelt by deed dated May 26th,
1938 and recorded on May 26, 1938 in Liber 567 of Deeds at
page 176 in the Dutehees County Clerk's Office.

President Roosevelt sold and conveyed about one-half of

this property, including the house and Barn, to Dorothy S.
Becker by deed dated Sept. 30, 1936 and recorded Oct. 24,
1938 in Liber 570 of Deeds at page 262 in the Dutchess
County Clerk's Office.

During the past year there have been no improvements
made
on this parcel of real property which would justify an
increase of the assessed valuation.

The stone cottage you refer to in your notice was built

upon the eastern end of the Dumphy farm, which was sold by
the
Trustees under the Will of Thomas Hewbold, deceased, by
deed dated June 5th, 1935 and recorded on Sept. 3rd, 1935
in Liber 547 of Deeds at page lO1 in the Dutchess County
Clark's Office, and is now assessed as a parcel of
seventy-four acres at $2,000.

The entire Dumphy farm has been assessed up to 1938 at
an
aggregate valuation of $7,200., but since then has been
assessed in five parcels, viz:
