        Your 493, May 26, 4 p.m., requitres handling in the 
most delicate possible mariner at this moment  and cannot 
be communicatedin crude terms at a time when the deter-
mination is absolute to fight on land to the bitter end. 
 
        I will have to present it as a desire on our part to be 
of assistance if the worse comes to the worst. I shall do so 
with precaution to make certain that nothing circle comes
to Paris via London on this subject.
