Message from Madame Chiang Kai-shek to Lauchlin Currie

                                   Chungking, Mar. 20, 1942

Stillwell just returned from Burma. So long as question
of comand joint forces not satisfactorily settled future will
be very difficult. Fifth and Sixth armies now there. Burmese
population actively assisting Japanese against British and whole
territory honeycombed with Fifth columnists. Pity when Generalissimo
offered in December to send troops which could have done liaison
work Wavell rejected offer. Our visit to India ver satisfactory.
