                     MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
 
                              You will recall that the Secretary of State asked us to undertake operations to 
 
interrupt shipments of chrome. The first operations have been undertaken with the result that on 
 
May 29th and 30th, two railsray bridges across the Maritsa River were destroyed by 
 
representatives of our organization. One of these bridges was near Svilingrad in Bulgaria and is 
 
described as the largest bridge over the Maritsa in that area. The other was 12 kilometers east of 
 
Alexandroupolis (Dede Agach) in Greece. The main railway line from Istanbul to Sofia passes 
 
through Svilingrad; the only alternative rail route passes over the Alexandroupolis line.
 
               Reconnaissance to determine the extent of the damage has since been made 
 
by our people who advise that the interruption of traffic caused by these actions lasted until 
 
bridges were repaired which took four days in
