silent throng their deep gratitude to America. American  
Relief for Italy is the only foreign voluntary agency which  
up to this time has given succor in a sizeable way to these  
victims of the war. UNRRA is now to begin its work of  
relief, particularly in refugees camps and supplementary  
nutritional supplies among the undernourished. American  
Relief for Italy has reached an understanding with UNRRA  
on cooperative fields of action. American Relief for  
Italy will continue to supply the Italian National Committee  
with clothing and shoes augmented by supplies from UNRRA, American Red   
Cross and other contributors but all to be  
distributed by the Italian National Committee. The untiring  
efforts of Judge Juvenal Marchisio, President of American  
Relief for Italy, the Board of Trustees, its staff and  
all cooperating agencies, religious, labor and social  
are beyond praise. Within 20 days of the arrival of the  
first of several thousand of tons of supplies in December  
distribution was begun in the most devastated regions.  
Your shoes and clothing have covered almost a million  
people--people who without your efforts would have remained  
in rags to suffer the bitter mountain winter. The millions  
of vitamin and yeast tablets you have supplied have given  
the children in schools, hospitals and institutions new
