The second
building Franklin Roosevelt designed was his new Presidential Library. When
his presidency was over, Franklin Roosevelt wanted to return to Hyde Park
and spend his time with his collections at a new library. He sketched the
plans for a Dutchess County fieldstone building on a piece of legal paper
and personally supervised construction whenever he was on the property. He
laid the cornerstone and, in June 1941, dedicated the Presidential Library.
