excerpts therefrom had to be obtained from the estate. On
the instructions of Mr. Hackett and Mr. Roosevelt the
Librarian of Congress was advised that the Executors and
Trustees had no objection to the publication of the
excerpts in question.

Because this problem may arise from time to time it is
proposed that the Trustees now formulate a statement of
policy for dealing with such requests. It is suggested that
the policy commonly followed by public libraries and
custodians of letters be adopted. Under such policy consent
to the publication of letters or excerpts therefrom would
be freely given except where such publication would be
against public policy, be contrary common standards of
propriety, cast reflections upon living persona or place
them in disrepute or where such publication is for purely
commercial purposes.

VI. JAMES R. ROOSEVELT REMAINDER INTEREST

As reported at the last meeting, a chimney fire at the James
R. Roosevelt residence on Thanksgiving Day of last year
caused slight damage. The fire loss was adjusted by the
insurance companies at $13.84. Six loss drafts were issued
by the insurance companies aggregating that amount. Five of
those drafts include the names of the three Executors and
Trustees of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Estate as payees, as
follows, and are submitted herewith for endorsement:

                Home Insurance Co. $ .93
                Home Insurance Co. 3.09
                Hartford Fire Insurance Co. .93
                Springfield F.&M. Insurance Co. 1.86
                Royal Insurance Co. 6.10

Since Mrs. Helen Robinson has personally paid the cost of
repairs as well as general repairs to the chimney, she is
entitled to the proceeds of the insurance checks.
