During the night of October 2nd-3rd 100 aircraft were sent 
      out to attack the following targets. Three synthetic oil plants, 
      the power station near Frankfurt/Oder, 4 marshalling yards, shipping 
      in 5 channel ports and mine laying. Two aircraft are missing.
 
      
 
 
3. German Air Force.
 
      Casualties from London area reported as 57 killed and 223 wounded 
      during the night of October 1st-2nd. Three bombs fell on the 
      Tower of London; there were no casualties and little damage. 
      Only other items of note were damage to water works in one London 
      suburb, minor interruption to production by an unexploded bomb 
      at an aircraft works and one factory damaged by H.E. and outside 
      London 10 persons killed and 60 wounded at Birkenhead.
 
      
 
 
Daylight October 2nd.
 
      There was considerable enemy activity over the Channel and Enemy 
      raiders frequently penetrated East Kent. Six larger raids each 
      totaling about 50 to 60 aircraft approached London and on 4 occasions 
      a few enemy aircraft reached London area. These raids were of 
      short duration and were composed almost entirely of fighters. 
      Some single bomber reconnaissance flights penetrated further 
      inland; 2 of these aircraft were shot down and 1 landed intact. 
      About 250 aircraft are thought to have been operating during 
      the day. Bombing was of a minor nature and little damage was 
      done to work shops and/
