      4. Shipping Casualties.
 
      A homeward-bound convoy was twice attacked by U-Boats in the 
      north-western approaches yesterday. It is believed that six ships 
      were hit but further details are not yet available.
 
      Two convoys aggregating 49 ocean going vessels have arrived safely. 
      Cargoes included 6 of steel, 6 of oil and 6 of cereals. 
 
      5. Middle East.
 
      Libya. On October 17th successful attacks were made on light 
      anti-aircraft guns and mechanical transport at Sofafi and on 
      shipping at Benghazi.
 
      Sudan. Between October 15th and October 18th successful attacks 
      were carried out on various Italian bases, railways and aerodromes 
      in Abyssinia by bombing aircraft.
