subsidiary factory at Turin; steel works at Aosta attacked by
single aircraft; no detailed reports yet available but preliminary
reports indicate that attack at Berlin was successful. One of
our aircraft missing one crashed.

German Air Force.
Night of October 19th/20th (further reports). Approximate casualties
in London area were 170 killed and 300 seriously injured; at
Coventry casualties at present reported are nine killed and 23
seriously injured.
Daylight of October 20th. Enemy activity consisted of five major
raids over South East England each consisting of about 50 fighter
aircraft; elements of four of these raids penetrated to Central
London area. Our fighter squadrons intercepted and seven enemy
aircraft were destroyed.
Bombs dropped in Paddington, Westminster and West Ham districts
causing casualties and a pumping station some flats and two small
factories were hit.
Outside London an oil cistern in Essex was ignited but fire was
extinguished. Two other cisterns were punctured. Several towns
on the South East Coast were bombed but no serious damage is
reported.
Night of October 20th/21st. Enemy bombing started at night fall
with attacks on London and on a smaller scale the Midlands; Coventry
was the chief objective in this area. The number of aircraft
operating over London was considerably smaller than on the previous
night although activity was steadily maintained until 1 a.m.
